Pingu has started playing with building blocks a lot. He also has this toy where you can put different shaped blocks into the correct shaped holes in a bigger box. Well, this particular toy has pink triangle blocks that he absolutely hates for some reason or other (he normally doesn't mind pink)...
Last weekend while cleaning up all the blocks he has, we discovered that the pink triangles were missing and that a few of these really nice building blocks were also missing.
Hmmm...
We looked pretty much everywhere. In drawers, under tables and the sofa, in bags... I even dug through the rather full and nasty garbage bag to see if I could find the blocks. Nope...
So we figured they would turn up eventually but we were still a bit distressed...
A day later, Pingu and I were playing on the floor after I picked him up from barnehage. He was playing with his favorite blocks - these green cylinder-shaped blocks. Green seems to be his favorite color. Anyway, he suddenly crawled over to one of our speakers and put the green cylinder in the hole of the speaker. I took it out and gave the block back to Pingu. He screamed at me and then shoved the block back into the speaker hole with a very defiant look on his face. I had to stick my arm in to get the block and... lo and behold! A whole cache of blocks inside!
Silly penguin...
I managed to fish out most of the blocks but we had to shake out the other blocks, after unsuccessfuly trying to disassemble the speaker only to find that the parts were painted shut.
We've now stuffed some thick wool socks into the speaker holes so that this doesn't happen again :-D

Reasons #3627 and #3628 I'm fat
#3627: Not only does Pingu feed himself his baby food with a spoon, he spoon feeds me as well, and I accept the food so that I don't get him too upset or offended.
He's getting better at getting food from the bowl onto the spoon and into his mouth, but he still needs a lot of practice ;-)
#3628: At some point during dinner, Pingu decided to stuff his food-slathered hand into my mouth. I licked the food off his hand in order to get it clean. At least cleaner than before... nom nom nom nom baby food...

sometimes I wish...
...that Pingu was a Pinga. Then I could dress her up in pink and glittery stuff, and buy her pink Legos and Hello Kitty and stuff. Just to piss off the so-called "feminists" who are anti-pink and anti-anything girlie. Because they hate being women and femaleness and girlieness so much that they will deny anyone with XX chromosones the right to want to wear pink, be pretty, etc. because misery loves company and all...
Oh wait, or is the real reason why they want to get rid of pink that they will actually have to defend the boys who choose all that pink crap? It's OK for girls to like "boy stuff" but for boys to like "girl stuff"? Is it really OK? Where is the outcry against the tyranny of blue? Think about it...
(One of these days I'll actually dive deeper into this topic.)
By the way, am I the only one who has noticed that the result of the 70s "make everything gender neutral" experiment seems to be a greater than ever division between the sexes?

pics from Pingu's first birthday
Since I was too lazy or something and didn't post them here on the 8th of January...
Here's a shot of Pingu, very fed up with Mamma and Pappa, who only wanted a nice family photo...
After the photo session and a nap, we took Pingu out for his first sledding ever! He got the sled for Yule but we didn't get any proper snow here until the day before his birthday (my birthday hah!) Sledding was very exciting for the little chap, although he was a bit skeptical in the beginning...
After another nap and dinner (Peking duck; Pingu actually ate some of it along with some other stuff), it was time for cake! The cake wreck polar teddy bear cake, but I'm not a confectioner so there! Pingu was a bit afraid of the cake at first, but once he got a paw and stuffed it into his face it was all about the OM NOM NOM NOM!
I can't believe he's over a year old already. Wow!

Wow, 2012 already?
It looks like I got lazy. Or busy. Or something. My last entry here was from the day I went back to work after maternity leave...
A lot has happened since then. So here's a quickie update. Pingu has grown. A lot. He started barnehage (Norwegian version of daycare) in November and is doing very well there. He really needed it by the time he started. Not that there was anything wrong with hanging out with Pappa at home, but it was getting to the point where he needed more stimulation than Pappa or I could provide. In barnehage he interacts with other adults and small children. He was skeptical to everyone at first, of course, but he eventually relaxed with the adults and now he's playing with the other kids. Not too long ago, he got his first kiss (that Pappa witnessed) - one of the girls walked up to him and kissed him! That put Pingu in a great mood; he was very happy and all babbly when we took him home :-)
Of course being in barnehage means bringing home all kinds of lovely yuckies. It started with a tummy bug and escalated into colds that didn't go away and then ear infections. So for a good part of November and December he was sick, I was sick because he was sick (yeah, guess what happens when sick baby licks Mamma's face when Mamma gives him a hug?), he went back to near exclusive breastfeeding (dead exhausting when the baby is so big), blah blah... but everything seems to be fine again. For now. I'm sure the new round of whatever is just around the corner. We still have February and March to go...
The ear infections and a possible issue with his balance organ means that Pingu isn't walking yet. It seemed like he was on his way to walking before he started barnehage, but once the ear stuff started up, everything seemed to go downhill and he was even "off balance" when sitting. It's better now and he's up and taking lots of steps on his own again. He's more into climbing on everything and everyone though...
Pingu is also very eager to eat without my assistance. He tries to eat porridge on his own, with a spoon from a bowl and all, but his fine motor skills aren't quite there yet. He'll eat "real food" with his hands. Sort of. He usually stuffs food into mouth, tries to chew it but can't really chew, spits out food again, picks up spat out food and stuffs it into mouth, rinse and repeat... is this how we're supposed to go about it? I try to feed him (either with utensils or sometimes just by hand) in between his own efforts. He still wants to do it all by himself. Either way, it doesn't seem like he gets much in. But he doesn't seem to be starving, so...
Anyway, I'll update with more Pingu stuff later. And include some pics. He's changed quite a lot since the last pic I posted here!

Back to work...
Today was my first full day of work since... last year. Pingu is seven months old today. Husband of feitpingvin has his work cut out for him for the next four months... muwahahaha...
As expected, work was a bit chaotic. After reorganization and my group moving floors, I had no workspace and all my crap was missing. By the time I left, I had a desk and I found a good amount of stuff but I'm still missing things like a monitor and docking station and other devices that would make it possible for me to... um... work :-P
Things should be OK tomorrow. At the very least I have a meeting all afternoon, and I was able to get a nice stack of papers to read prior to the meeting, so I don't need my stash immediately, although it would be nice to have ASAP...
I'm still without a proper computer to use. I have so much to write about Pingu, who can crawl and climb small barriers and sit up on his own, among other things. He's a clever little thing. You can't take your eyes off him or else he gets into some sort of mischief. I'm looking forward to the peace and quiet at work :-P
